Guests approach Sotto Il Monte through the impressive main gates, arriving at a formal motor court with a central fountain derived from that of Rome's Villa Medici. The property is comprised of the main Villa, a 25-meter Pool, a Pool House and Gymnasium, an indoor Solarium Pool, a north/south facing championship Tennis Court, a Guest House, Staff Quarters and Manager's Apartment, a Car Collector's Garage, a private water system, a Greenhouse, a Shade House, and additional outbuildings.

The gardens of Sotto were originally planned in 1927 by A.E. Hanson, who was inspired by the formal Renaissance gardens he experienced in Italy, particularly those of Villa Gamberaia near Florence. Hanson's drawings called for a series of interlocking garden rooms, each a natural extension of the adjoining room of the villa. The inherent beauty of Sotto's gardens lies in the interrelationship of its parts. The architectural symmetry of long passageways and neighboring parterres, the juxtaposition of open spaces with hidden private areas, and the use of flowers and statuary as focal points are all the products of careful planning.
